Bringing stability to the Nelson Mandela Bay council and ending the dysfunctionality of the municipal administration are on top of newly elected DA Mayor Retief Odendaal's to-do list.
Odendaal, 40, from Weybridge Park in Gqeberha, was elected mayor of the municipality at 03:00 on Thursday during a 17-hour marathon council meeting that was marred by chaos. The new leadership followed the removal of the ANC-led coalition government's mayor Eugene Johnson.
Odendaal narrowly beat his opponent Wandile Jikeka in a vote.
