Moses Mabhida Stadium to host 2018 MTN8 final

The Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban has been confirmed as the venue for the 2018 MTN8 final by the Premier Soccer League (PSL) on Monday night.

The stadium will host defending champions SuperSport United and last season's runners-up Cape Town City on Saturday, September 29 as they will battle it out for the coveted trophy and the whopping R8 million in prize money.

“We have talked to the sponsors, the two clubs Cape Town City and SuperSport United to take the match back to Durban,” said PSL's Luxolo September to SuperSport's Extra Time.

“It is like a grudge match and we decided to take it back to where it started because it is the same script, but act two,” he concluded.

In their road to the final, Matsatsantsa defeated Orlando Pirates on penalties following a 2-2 draw at the Orlando Stadium.

Up next for them was another Soweto giant, Kaizer Chiefs, in the semi-finals where they clashed over a two-legged affair, and coach Kaitano Tembo's men emerged as victors courtesy of a 3-2 aggregate score after a 2-2 draw in the first leg.

For coach Benni McCarthy's men, they beat Maritzburg United 1-0 in the quarter-finals to set up a date with Mamelodi Sundowns in the last four.

The Citizens secured a 1-0 win over the Brazilians at home before losing by the same scoreline in Tshwane, but they still managed to book a spot in the final after winning on penalties.

With both coaches looking to gain their first bout of silverware as head coaches, the clash is set to be a thriller at the iconic 2010 Fifa World Cup venue.

Tembo was roped in as head coach after Eric Tinkler's resignation in March and will want to retain the trophy they lifted last season by beating the same Mother City side.

In addition, Bafana Bafana all-time goalscorer, Benni McCarthy, will also look to lift his maiden cup in his second season in charge of City.

The PSL has announced that the clash will be staged at 19:00 and tickets for the highly anticipated clash will be available in due course.
