Pink’s ‘Beautiful Trauma’ Set for No. 1 on Billboard 200 With 2017’s Biggest Debut by a Woman

P!nk is on course for the biggest debut of 2017 by a woman on next week’s Billboard 200 albums chart, according to industry forecasters. Those in the know suggest her new album, Beautiful Trauma, will launch at No. 1 on the chart with over 300,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Oct. 19. That sizable sum would secure P!nk her second No. 1 album and the biggest week of 2017 for an album by a woman.

Beautiful Trauma was released on Oct. 13 through RCA Records. It’s P!nk’s seventh studio album and follows 2012’s chart-topping The Truth About Love.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The top 10 of the new Nov. 4-dated Billboard 200 chart (where P!nk will likely debut at No. 1) is scheduled to be revealed on Billboard’s websites on Sunday, Oct. 22.

A significant chunk of Beautiful Trauma’s first week sales will be generated by a successful concert ticket/album bundle sale redemption promotion with P!nk’s upcoming arena tour. Similar offers have boosted sales for an array of albums in 2017, including Metallica’s Hardwired… To Self-Destruct, Katy Perry’s Witness, LCD Soundsystem’s American Dream and The Chainsmokers’ Memories… Do Not Open.

If Beautiful Trauma bows as expected, it will easily blast past the current biggest week of 2017 for an album by a woman: the debut frame of Perry’s Witness, which earned 180,000 units in its first week, according to Nielsen Music (162,000 in traditional album sales). The last album by a woman to earn over 300,000 units in a week was Beyoncé’s Lemonade, when it tallied 321,000 units in its second chart week (May 21, 2016), following its whopping debut of 653,000.
