MADGE DENIES KID BID

Madonna admits she IS in Malawi but denies she was trying to adopt two more children – despite court officials’ claims

MADONNA has denied she has applied to adopt two more children from Malawi - despite court officials' claims to the contrary.

The superstar was spotted by reporters at a court in the Malawian capital Lilongwe after flying into the country yesterday.

Despite reports citing court officials - and journalists in Lilongwe claiming they were stopped from taking snaps of the star - Madonna denied that the claims were true.

In a statement to the Sun Online she said: "I am in Malawi to check on the children's hospital in Blantyre and my other work with Raising Malawi, and then heading home.

"The rumours of an adoption process are untrue.”

The singer's publicist Barbara Charone told Sun Online: "It's not true. I can't get into a conversation with you, all I can tell you is it's not true."

Ms Charone refused to confirm whether or not the singer had been at the court in Malawi.

Reporters who spotted Madonna told the media she was surrounded by a heavy security presence and photographers were stopped when they tried to take any pictures.

One reporter said: "They were not happy at being seen and made it clear that if anyone took a photo it could get very messy".

In a further twist the court confirmed it was considering the singer's application.

"The court is looking at the application now to determine whether Madonna can adopt these two children," Mlenga Mvula, spokesman of the Lilongwe High Court, said.

"The... process requires the court to make a ruling on the adoption."

The court had been expected to take around a week to decide whether Madonna can adopt the two children.

The Like a Virgin singer already has two children from Malawi, adopting David Banda in 2006 and Mercy James in 2009.

The 58-year-old is said to have flown into Lilongwe on a private jet with her entourage and booked out the exclusive Kumbali Country Lodge.

Madonna visited the southern African nation last year to inspect work by her charity Raising Malawi, which works to support the country's one million orphans.

Local media reports said Madonna appeared before Justice Fiona Mwale amid tight security, accompanied by two unidentified children and several other people, before being driven away in an SUV vehicle.

Madge landed herself in hot water over a foul-mouthed rant at an anti-Trump march after telling supporters she thought about "blowing up the White House".

She later backtracked on the comments, writing on social media "I do not promote violence".

The adoption bid confusion comes after ex-husband director Guy Ritchie won a nine-month custody battle over their teenage son Rocco in September.
Madonna's trip to Malawi last year was the first time in nearly two years that she visited the country.

The US singer was said to be trying to keep her latest visit secret but was seen by reporters covering a local case at the High Court entering Judge Mwale’s chambers.

Her lawyer Titus Mvalo was even quoted by the Nyasa Times as saying the super rich star was trying to adopt two more children but said he was not allowed to comment further.

Madonna was later spotted carrying a child on her hip, while a friend was carrying another child.

Locals said they believed them to be the two children Madonna plans to adopt.

It is not known if Madonna will now remain in the country.

Her previous adoptions of David Banda, now 11, and Mercy James, 10, have led to some controversy.

She was stripped of her VIP status in 2013 after a spat with former president Joyce Banda, who claimed the star wanted eternal gratitude for adopting David Banda and Mercy James.

But Banda was ousted in 2014 elections and the new president Peter Mutharika moved to repair relations, saying "my government has always been grateful for the passion Madonna has for this country".

Rocco - whose pals include Brooklyn Beckham and Noel Gallagher's daughter Anais - fell out with his mum at the end of 2015, abandoning her Rebel Hearts tour to join his dad in London.

He spent Christmas with his father and in January, broke a court order by refusing to leave Guy’s home and fly to New York to live with Madonna and return to school.

The teenager is believed to enjoy a more low-key lifestyle, even earning some extra cash by working as a Deliveroo cyclist.

During his battle with his mother, Rocco made his feelings clear on social media by posting thinly-veiled digs at her on Instagram.

In February last year, he was seen smoking a suspicious-looking cigarette at a skate park on London’s South Bank.

Then in April he was snapped drinking and smoking under a bridge, and in September, he was arrested for possession of cannabis, but the incident was only brought to light two months later.

Sun Online has contacted Madonna's publicist for a comment.
