Britney Spears Broadway Musical in Talks: Report

Following in the footsteps of Elvis Presley, Carole King, Green Day and Michael Jackson, Britney Spears‘ greatest hits might soon make their way to Broadway. According to a Forbes report, as Spears wraps up her sold-out Las Vegas residency, managers Larry Rudolph and Adam Leber have begun taking meetings with some Broadway veterans to explore the idea of turning Spears’ songs into a theatrical production.

Though a spokesperson for Spears could not be reached for comment at press time, Forbes reported that Rudolph and Leber have met with Jerry Mitchell (the man behind the Gloria and Emilio Estefan musical On Your Feet!) about options for a Britney musical. “We’re telling a true story about real people, so the authenticity is really important to me,” Mitchell said of his work with helping the Estefans tell their life story.

For now, though, Mitchell isn’t exploring the same path for a Spears musical. “It would NOT be autobiographical,” he told Forbes. The idea for now is to just use Britney’s songs to tie together a fictional story along the lines of the smash ABBA musical Mamma Mia!.

No timeline has been set for the project.
