Few films can boast the title of the biggest global box office weekend—especially two decades and three movies later—and Jurrassic World, with an unprecedented $524.1 million, can claim just that.

The fourth movie in the popular franchise, Jurassic World released worldwide on June 12 starring Irrfan Khan—beating the Avengers' (2012) $207.4 million opening in America, and the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 (2011) $314 million mark, internationally.

The 48-year-old Padma Shri winning actor is now seen in Jurassic World, directed by Colin Trevorrow, playing the role of the park owner, Simon Masrani. Vogue caught up with the actor on email while he was in Budapest—shooting for his upcoming movie, Inferno, slated to release in October 2016—to discuss his newest sci-fi adventure film:

The special effects will have you hooked

It only takes a movie marathon to realise that, with time, the special effects and graphic technology has only got better and better—and the latest release is no exception, says Khan. "A whole slew of new and dangerous dinosaurs, the heavy VFX work and all the new technology and gadgets used on the sets are definitely worth keeping an eye out for. Jurassic World gives viewers the opportunity to feel the rush and adventure as it has elements of a biological preserve, a safari, a zoo, and a theme park—all in one."

Simon Masrani brings the age-old dream to life

Simon Masrani, owner of the newly opened Jurassic World theme park, and played by Khan, took a personal, almost moral interest in the park to ensure that it provides its visitors with an unforgettable experience. "Simon is an entrepreneur and has a unique sense of morality. He nurtured John Hammond's dream and truly wants to educate the common man through entertainment."

They had a life-size digital dinosaur on set

Movies with make-believe characters heavily rely on graphics and other technology to bring them to life, alongside the live cast. When asked what the sets were like, Khan said, "The movie set was grand, however, most of it was also digital. The most superior quality of VFX and special features has been used throughout the film. However, the Indominus Rex was kept in secret. It was a huge mammoth-like figure."

Khan goes dapper for this role

The plot spans over one day, leaving little room for outfit changes—nevertheless Khan's wardrobe was rather expansive and striking. "It included super suave suits with a dash of colour. I insisted on adding some amount of colour in the styling since it makes the character look fresh. We also had a really expensive watch that my character wore at all times. After every shot we took with the watch, they used to keep it in a glass box, tucked away—locked and safe," adds Khan.

Jurassic World released worldwide on June 12 and is currently playing in cinemas across India
