AC Milan centre-back Oguchi Onyewu will miss the rest of the UEFA Champions League group stage after injuring his knee while on international duty with the United States.

Onyewu out
The 27-year-old was carried off on a stretcher in the final moments of Wednesday's 2-2 draw against Costa Rica in Washington after attempting a header. Subsequent tests revealed he had torn a tendon in his left knee. Onyewu, who left R. Standard de Liège to sign as a free agent for Milan in the summer, will be sidelined for at least four months, ruling him out of the rest of the Rossoneri's Group C games.

Leonardo back
There is some good news for coach Leonardo, though. Brazilian international defender Thiago Silva is back in training and should be available for next Wednesday's game at Real Madrid CF after recovering from his thigh injury. Milan have three points from two UEFA Champions League group stage games following their shock home defeat by FC Zürich on Matchday 2.
