Three Yucatán Haciendas to visit this fall

Yucatán is known for being one of the warmest tourist destinations in Mexico. However, given that its high temperatures decrease during the fall and winter, tourists visit the region often during these times of the year.

To enjoy our great cultural, architectural and gastronomic richness, we share with you some of the most beautiful haciendas in Yucatán.

The haciendas are reconstructions developed during the first years of the colonial era, functioning as estancias for the Spanish encomenderos who had come to the Mayab lands to carve out new riches.

Yucatán has approximately 300 haciendas here we share three of them with you:

• Hacienda Mucuyché:

  Its origin dates back to the 17th century and the story goes that Empress Carlota visited this hacienda in 1865 and enjoyed the natural paradises hidden there. It was owned by the landowner Don Manuel José Peón and covered 5,000 hectares, being an important henequen production center in Yucatán. It is considered by Yucatecans as a natural wonder of unique beauty in the south of the state, in the municipality of Abalá.

In this hacienda, you will discover two of the most beautiful cenotes in the state. The first is semi-open style and the second is cavern style, once you enter their crystalline waters you will feel the energy that emanates from them and it will be impossible not to feel in communion with nature.

• Hacienda San Francisco Tzacalha:

  Located in the municipality of Dzidzantún, it was founded around 1857 and represented one of the most important haciendas in the state in terms of a territorial extension with almost 10 thousand hectares. Today, Hacienda San Francisco is a space committed to the preservation of the environment and the local community; transformed into a hotel that allows travelers to enjoy nature in its more than 160 hectares, populated by wild animals.

• Hacienda Sotuta de Peón Hacienda Viva:

  Built-in the mid-19th century, it began operating in 1858. It is today one of the few henequen haciendas that exist in full production. Turned into a luxury hotel, it combines a wide range of cultural, historical, touristic, and gastronomic experiences, with unequaled natural landscapes. In addition, it is home to eight cenotes, only one of which is fully equipped – Dzul-há (Caballero de Agua) – in which natural stone sculptures frame a natural spa of fresh crystalline waters.

  At this hacienda, you can’t miss the traditional Yucatecan cuisine, one of the pillars of Mexican gastronomy.
