Prom season has gotten endlessly creative over the years. Between elaborate "promposals," celebrity dates, and handcrafted dresses, there are plenty of ways to let your personality show through when planning your perfect night to remember.

One young woman has taken the homemade-dress trend to the next level — and managed to clap back at her haters in the process. When Amber Scholl's YouTube followers asked her to do a prom-themed video, she had the perfect idea: a dress made entirely out of trash bags. She then paired photos of her creation with a perfectly witty caption on Twitter: "When someone calls you trashy, make a dress out of trash bags and prove them fabulously correct." And — poof! — a viral prom dress was born.

TBH, the dress itself is pretty impressive. The bodice consists of black trash-bag rosettes, and the floor-length skirt is sheer with matching "trashy" flowers at the bottom. Amber tells Teen Vogue that she made the gown by "restitching and gluing stuff onto a dress I bought at a thrift store." (She also put together a YouTube tutorial for anyone who wants to copy her look.)

As of Monday, Amber's prom-dress tweet has garnered more than 3,000 retweets and more than 12,000 likes. She never expected to go viral, but the response has been, in her words, "AMAZING." She adds: "I feel so loved and am amazed by the Internet — how many people you can reach is amazing."

Amber wants other people to know that despite the hefty price tag of prom dresses, there are plenty of creative — and more affordable — ways to look gorgeous for the big event. "Have fun, and don’t take it too seriously — the whole point is to have a great night and feel beautiful, whatever that means to you." And she's absolutely right; prom is entirely what you make of it, and Amber proves that you can even look flawless if you show up in a literal trash bag. It doesn't get more real (or fun) than that.
