Has anyone run one of these 24F deep cycle batteries for a while? if so, how has it held up? I am in the market for a new AGM as my 27F and 31M Northstars will no longer fit in the stock location with my setup. Need something small (measured today at walmart, this is the same length and width as their non-AGM 24F), but going to use a solar panel to keep it topped off, as well as, having it charge up with the alternator while the truck is on. Curious on everyone's thoughts on these?

Think im gonna give this one a try unless someone convinces me otherwise. Would love to hear feedback from real world users.

    Cheers,
    Robert

I haven’t used ever start, but I use a Duracell agm from Sam’s club in my c5 corvette. Its been going strong for 6 years now. It does stay on a battery tender tho when not being driven.

Wish i had a sam's card, i'd probably go with one of those. These are made by Johnson controls from what i've found in my research. Any idea who manufactures the Duracell you have?

Deka Manufacturers the Duracell from Sam’s. I shop at Sam’s all the time and get gas there. So it’s definitely worth the membership for me. I actually worked there in the tire shop for a few years lol.

Johnson Controls (actually the hedge fund that bought that unit) makes everstart, interstate, die hard and optima.

Sounds like a good way to do it. Nearest sam's is 65 miles from me so that's why i havent jumped on board yet lol

Good to know, thanks for chiming in. I think i might give this one a shot and see what happens. If i get more than 3 yrs out of it, i think i'll have gotten my money's worth out of it

It may have even changed again. But almost every battery in the US is made by Exide, Delphi or Power Solutions(Johnson).

Looks exactly like my duralast from autozone. Works great after 2 years and occasional winching and I have an audio system too. May want to use a voltage booster I you ran lead acid before

Curious as to why you call it a "deep cycle battery"?

I was under the impression AGM batteries were of the deep cycle flavor so you could run them down more and they wont die as compared to the regular lead acid type

Their purpose is to be maintenance free, rugged & spill-proof.
There's AGM & there's AGM deep cycle (marine). Deep cycle isn't designed to, but can, be a starting battery.

I have been rocking one in my 4Runner for a little over 24 hours.

I have a winch but obviously haven't tried it with this battery yet.

The Panasonic is still good but at 5 years it was a good time to change it.
I am now using it to power LED lights in my shed with a solar panel.

I noticed the shelf at Walmart says 5 years but the battery made 12/19 states 4 years.
Their cheaper battery shelf had 5 years as well but the batteries stated 3 years.

They need to update the statistics on the shelf.

From what I’ve heard, after Johnson controls took over optima, quality took a dive. Considering my first optima lasted about 14 years, the next one didn’t make it 2 years, seems true.

    Thanks for chiming in!

I do remember reading on here about the optima quality not being what it used to. May wait and see how long my regular 24F everstart lasts before i take the dive into one of their AGMs
