About The Artwork
La Catrina Mexican tradition. In ancient times the poor people used to powder their faces with chickpea powder as a form of protest against the upper government class. It was later popularized by a newspaper cartoonist named Jose Guadalupe Posada hence the name La Catrina was later associated with the day of the dead but in reality they are two different things. This work of art was achive on canvas and acrylic colors and plaster paste, to give a rich look of relieve very atractive to human eye and and muti layers strokes of acrylics untill the work was done.

Angel Ortiz was born in Progreso in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico in February of 1966. He was born a gifted artist, achieving numerous awards for his artwork at school since he was very young. Angel has been in love with nature ever since, attracted by the ocean's magnificence and vast open space of his native land.
