✂ --- Tehuana petticoats
Regional costumes or tehuana dresses, as they are commonly called, are a set formed by a huipil (blouse) and a petticoat (skirt) with an olan sewn at the bottom. The dresses that the painter Frida Kahlo used to wear belong to the traditional clothing of the Zapotec peoples of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec (located in Oaxaca, southern Mexico). Therefore, the women of this region are commonly known as TEHUANAS. They usually wear these dresses in the patron saint festivities or in the night parties, known as Velas.
Each piece is a special creation with a unique design made by Zapotec artisans. Both the huipil and the petticoat have the same design that can be made of flowers or chain.
The creation of a piece can take several months of work, as artisans have to paint the designs on the fabric and then hand embroider the flowers or fill the patterns of the chains, or make both designs on both sides of the huipil and throughout the skirt.
Finally, it is made a work of art, because in its strokes and embroidery is love and joy.

The enguas can be used long or short, with or without the white holán, depending on taste. The combination can achieve a casual or elegant style, you decide...
