The official website for the TV anime adaptation of Rekomaru Otoi's web manga Ojisan and Marshmallow (Ojisan to Marshmallow) revealed on Friday that the show will premiere on January 7. The series of five-minute shorts will premiere on TV Saitama at 25:00-25:05 (effectively January 8 from 1:00-1:05 a.m.) and then on KBS Kyoto from 25:30-25:35 (effectively January 8 from 1:30-1:35 a.m.). The series will also premiere on tvk on January 8 and on Sun TV on January 11.

The website also revealed the first key visual (pictured at right).

Hisayoshi Hirasawa (Haitai Nanafa producer) will serve as chief director on the project. Noriyoshi Sasaki (One Week Friends animation director, The Rolling Girls episode director) will direct the anime at Creators in Pack. Atsushi Oka (Wake Up, Girl Zoo!, Galilei Donna scripts) is writing the scenario and Mari Shirakawa (The Rolling Girls episode animation director) is designing the characters and serving as animation director. Masakatsu Oomuro (Magical Somera-chan, Danchigai) is handling sound design at Dax Production, shusei (Danchigai) is composing the music, and Dream Creation is producing the series.

The story centers around Hige, an older man who loves marshmallows, and Wakabayashi, an OL (office lady) who loves Hige. The manga follows as their relationship unfolds at their office.

The series has garnered over 20 million views on the pixiv site. Ichijinsha published the first compiled book volume in November 2014 and the second volume, Motto! Ojisan to Marshmallow, in June. Otoi began the ongoing spinoff series Wakabayashi-kun ga Nekasete Kurenai in Futabasha's Manga Action magazine in 2015.
