El libro esta muy bien documentando, de fácil lectura, vigente en la actualidad.

Leyendo el libro >retratos personales< de Enrique Krauze, encontré un ensayo sobre Jean Meyer, autor que no conocía y que por sus comentarios me interesó sobremanera. he leído bastante sobre la historia de México y sobre la revolución, mi abuelo fue un convencido de ella. yo no, en el libro de Krauze y en lo que llevo del libro de Meyer, encontré por fin una opinión clara, objetiva, que destruye los mitos y los logros de la revolución como un sistema de beneficio social y como el fin del autoritarismo dictatorial Porfiriano, que en su caso dada la situación del país era necesario, y en el caso de la revolución como un autoritarismo de estado aún más radical y que solo mantuvo una estructura de beneficio para los generales revolucionarios, que como dice Meyer se convierten en hacendados Porfirianos.
Meyer por él mismo es un personaje pintoresco, de origen francés, se baña del México profundo como muy pocos mexicanos lo hemos hecho.
