Arun Kumar Sinha | Mathrubhumi
Kozhikode: Arun Kumar Sinha, IPS, Director of Special Protection Group (SPG), passed away on Wednesday. He was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Gurugram, Haryana.
Hailing from Jharkhand, he was a 1987 Kerala cadre IPS officer and served as the Additional Director General (Special Services and Traffic).
Sinha also served as Thiruvananthapuram City Police Commissioner, South Zone IG, Kochi Commissioner, Wayanad and Malappuram SP, Intelligence DIG, Thiruvananthapuram Range DIG.
Earlier this year, the union government approved Sinha's re-employment as SPG chief on a contract basis for one year, just days before his retirement. When Narendra Modi was chief minister of Gujarat, he served in the Border Security Force (BSF) in the state.
Sinha has been the SPG's chief since March 2016. SPG was founded in 1988 with the purpose of protecting the Prime Minister of India and, in some situations, his or her family.
