Toallwhomitmayconcem: Be it known that I, GRANT Aeons, a citizen of the United. States, r'esldmg at Sac City, in the county of See and State'of Iowa, have invented a certain new and useful Grease-Gun, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my inventlon s to provide a grease gun of comparatively simple, durable and inexpensive construction.
More particularly,'1t my ob ect to provide a rease gun having a receptacle pref erably gylindrical in formfor hard 011 or nular chambercommunicating with said Pump- My invention -cons1sts-m CBItflllT details, in the construction, arrangement and combination of the various parts of-the device, whereby the objects contem lated are attained, as hereinafter more 11y set forth, pointed out in my claims and ustrated in the accompanying drawlngs, in which:
Figure 1 shows a side elevation of a grease cup embodying my invention. Fig. 2 shows a central, vertical, transverse, sectional view of the same, and Fig. 3 shows a vertical, transverse view throughthe air outlet valve.
In the accompanying drawings, \I have used the reference numeral 10 to indicate generally a receptacle preferably cylindrical in form having screwed upon its lower end a cap which has a central opening around which is a downwardly extending annular internally screw threaded flan 12.
4 Screwed into the flange'12 is a curve on let tube 13. Screwed into the outer end of the tube 13 is a discharge nozzle 14.
I preferably provide some means for forming an annular chamber around the upper end of the cylinder 10 of greater diameter than the cyhnder 10. My purpose can be so accomplished by using aca 15 having a downwardly extending an ar flange 16 screwed upon the upper end of the cylinder 5 10 and having just above the flange 16 an provide a sliding airannular chamber 17 of the kind mentioned. Secured at its ends to the sides of the cylinder 10 is a handle 18 which may be of any desired size or shape.

erally extending brackets 19 .formed on which, at their outerends, are bearings 20 to rece1ve a pump 21. The pump 21 may be of ordinary construction suitable for the purpose, with a screw cap 21 as shown and 1s prov1ded with an outlet tube 22, the discharge end of which communicates with the annular chamber 17 as shown in Fig. 2. Communicating with said annular chamber 17 is an outlet valve-23 which may be turned to prevent the exit of air from the interior of the cylinder or may be turnedto position to cause said cylinder to communicate with. and below the lower plate 25 is a similar annular plate 29, each being of smaller diameter than said leather rings. The leathers and the plates 25 are secured together. by means of a bolt 30, and a nut thereon.
.The pump and cylinder maybe assembled by removing the cap 21 and sliding the pump cylinder upwardly through the bearmgs 20 until the tube 22 is inserted into the opening provided for it in the lower wall of the annular chamber 17 In the practical .use of my improved top of the receptacle 10. The valve 23 is' thenclosed and the receptacle is inverted and filled with grease 31. The cap 11 may then be screwed on and the device is ready for use. By operating the piston 32 of the 6 pump by means of the handle 33 on the stem 34, air may be forced. through the tube .grease gun, after the parts havebeen assembled, the valve 23 is opened and the piston, hereinbefore described, is pushed to the the piston downwardly, thereby forcing the grease 31 outwardly through the tube 13 and the nozzle 14.
On account of the uliar construction of the ca 15 and the brackets 19 with relation to t e tube 22, the assemblin of the pump and the cylinder 10 is quic ly and the piston is forced to the top of the recap-- tacle 10 the portion 26 of the upper leather may spread out. The head of the bolt 30 will engage the cap 15 and air can then be forced past the portion 26 into the top of the cap 15 for starting the piston downwardly.
It will be understood that-some changes may be made in the details of the construction of my improved grease gun without departing fromits essential features, and it is my intent to-cover by this application any such changes which may be included Within the scope of the following claims.
I claim as my invention:
1. In a device of the class described, a receptacle having a discharge outlet at one end, a piston slidably mounted in said receptable, a cap for saidreceptacle having, an annular downwardly extending :flange fitting the up r end of said receptacleand being forme with. an annular chamber above said flan e of greater diameter than;
